Sue’s Book List!

Sue’s Book List!

The Traverse Area District Library shared Sue’s reading list in celebration of National Cheese Curd Day yesterday! They write:

Library superfan Sue Kurta curated a booklist for us. “My favorite childhood library memory is my Mom taking my brother, sister and I to our local library (Berkley Public Library in Berkley, Michigan) and setting us free, telling us we could check out “any books we wanted,” Kurta said.  “I loved checking out piles of whatever books caught our fancy, and of course, I loved how the books smelled!”

Sue’s booklist, with her notes:

Beatrix Potter! As an animal lover and rabbit rescuer, Beatrix Potter’s books illustrate the lives of animals with respect, imagination and relatability – they remind us of the truth that animals are just like us and deserve reverence, help and love. (TADL catalog search)

The Foxfire collection: Much of what I pursue as a small farmer and cheesemaker is to live very close to nature, and try to live a back-to-the-land lifestyle.  My family subscribed to the Foxfire Magazine when I was growing up, and it was my gateway into reading/learning about small farming, living in tandem with nature, making and doing for yourself with what is around you.
