White Pine Press visits the Village Winter Market

Northwestern Michigan College’s White Pine Press visited the winter farmers market at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

Boss Mouse owner Sue Kurta uses Moomers milk to make her cheeses, which include interesting flavors such as sweet swiss, and cheeses with caraway seed, peppers, herbs and more. Perhaps the most interesting product is the smoked butter, which Kurta’s father, Mike Kurta, creates using an interesting method—he’ll tell you the secret if you ask him for it. The butter is smoked with applewood, stays firm at all times, and smells like the sweetest campfire on earth. They make a soy-free vegan version too. Mike and his wife Margaret (Sue’s mother), help out at her stand in the market.
